Getting Started Overview

Everything you need to set up Fabric AI and start using intelligent AI agents for your development workflow.

Welcome! This guide will walk you through setting up Fabric AI and using your first AI agent. Whether you're a product manager looking to generate PRDs or a developer wanting to automate documentation, you'll be up and running in minutes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A Fabric AI account — Sign up at fabric.pro
  • An AI provider API key — From OpenAI, Anthropic, or another supported provider
  • Modern web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge (latest versions)

Account Setup

Create Your Account

Visit fabric.pro and click Get Started. You can sign up using:

  • Email & Password — Traditional sign-up with email verification
  • Magic Link — Passwordless login via email
  • Social Login — Sign in with Google, GitHub, or other providers
  • Passkey — Use biometric authentication (recommended for security)

Complete Your Profile

After signing in, complete your profile:

  1. Add your name and optional avatar
  2. Select your timezone for accurate scheduling
  3. Choose your preferred language (Fabric supports multiple languages)

Configure AI Provider

Navigate to Settings → AI Gateway to set up your AI provider:

  1. Click Add Provider
  2. Select your provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)
  3. Paste your API key
  4. Click Test Connection to verify it works
  5. Click Save

Tip: You can configure multiple providers and switch between them based on your needs. Each provider has different strengths—Claude for long contexts, GPT-4 for complex reasoning, etc.

Understanding the Interface

When you first log in, you'll see the main dashboard with these key areas:

  • Dashboard — Overview of your recent activity and quick stats
  • Agents — Browse, create, and manage AI agents
  • Projects — Organize work into projects with documents and workflows
  • Prompts — Access and manage your prompt library
  • Workspaces — Upload and organize documents for RAG context
  • Settings — Configure your account, AI providers, and integrations

Main Content Area

This is where you'll interact with agents, view documents, and work on projects. The interface adapts based on what you're doing:

  • Chat Interface — For conversing with AI agents
  • Document Editor — Rich text editor with AI assistance
  • Dashboard Views — Analytics and overview panels

Top Bar

  • Search — Quick access to any feature or document
  • Notifications — Stay updated on workflow completions and approvals
  • Organization Switcher — Switch between personal account and organizations
  • Profile Menu — Access settings, help, and sign out

Your First AI Agent

Let's create your first AI agent and generate a document:

Click Agents in the left sidebar. You'll see a list of available agents, including:

  • Document Generator — Creates various document types (PRDs, specs, etc.)
  • Fabric AI — The intelligent orchestrator that routes tasks to specialized agents
  • Custom Agents — Agents you or your organization have created

Select an Agent

For your first experience, let's use the Document Generator agent. Click on it to open the chat interface.

Start a Conversation

Type a message to begin. Here are some examples to try:

Create a PRD for a user authentication feature with OAuth support
Write a technical specification for a REST API that manages user profiles
Generate an architecture document for a microservices-based e-commerce platform

Review and Refine

The agent will generate a document based on your request. You can:

  • Edit directly in the document editor
  • Ask for changes by chatting with the agent
  • Accept or reject suggested modifications
  • Export the final document to PDF, DOCX, or Markdown

Adding Context with RAG

To get better results, you can provide context from your existing documents:

Create a Workspace

Go to Workspaces → Create Workspace. Give it a name like "Product Documentation" or "Technical Specs".

Upload Documents

Drag and drop documents into your workspace. Fabric supports:

  • PDF — Including scanned documents with OCR
  • Word Documents — .docx files
  • Markdown — .md files
  • Text Files — .txt files
  • Code Files — Various programming languages

Attach Workspace to Agent

When starting a conversation with an agent, click the Attach button and select your workspace. The agent will now have access to all documents in that workspace for context.

Organizations and Collaboration

If you're working with a team, you can create an organization:

Create an Organization

Go to Settings → Organizations → Create Organization. Choose a name and invite team members via email.

Set Member Roles

Assign roles to team members:

  • Owner — Full control, including billing and deletion
  • Admin — Can manage members and settings
  • Member — Can use agents and create documents

Share Resources

Within an organization, you can share:

  • Workspaces — Documents and knowledge bases
  • Prompts — Custom prompt templates
  • Agents — Organization-specific agents
  • Projects — Collaborative projects

Connecting External Tools

Fabric AI can connect to your existing tools using MCP (Model Context Protocol):

GitHub

Read repositories, create issues, manage pull requests

Jira

Create tickets, update statuses, manage sprints

Slack

Post messages, read channels, manage notifications

Notion

Read and write pages, manage databases

To set up an integration:

  1. Go to Settings → MCP Servers
  2. Click Add Server and select from the registry
  3. Authenticate using OAuth or API key
  4. Test the connection

Once connected, agents can use these tools to automate tasks like creating Jira tickets from PRDs or posting updates to Slack.

What's Next?

Now that you're set up, explore these guides:

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

AI Provider Not Working

  • Verify your API key is correct and has sufficient credits
  • Check that the provider is enabled in your settings
  • Try testing the connection again

Documents Not Uploading

  • Ensure the file format is supported
  • Check that the file size is under 50MB
  • Try refreshing the page and uploading again
